Adji Cissoko is a principal dancer with Alonzo King LINES Ballet and recently stepped into the role of Associate Artistic Director. Born and raised in Munich, Germany, she trained at the Ballet Academy Munich before moving to New York City at 18 to attend the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. She joined the National Ballet of Canada in 2010 and has been a member of LINES Ballet since 2014, where she has performed leading roles in works by Alonzo King and appeared in international galas and collaborations around the world.
Alongside performing, Adji is passionate about mentorship, artistic collaboration, and supporting the whole person behind the artist. As Associate Artistic Director, she helps bridge communication between dancers and leadership while also representing the company through outreach, public conversations, and international engagements. A certified health and life coach since 2020, she is deeply interested in expanding access to wellness and coaching resources for artists in the same way physical therapy has become an essential part of dance training and care.
Adji is currently developing a dance film project for the San Francisco Dance Film Festival centered around her West African griot lineage. The project features an original solo created in collaboration with her cousin, Youba Cissoko, a 72nd-generation kora player born and raised in Senegal who is now based in Philadelphia. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue building collaborative, process-driven projects that bring together different artistic disciplines while helping broaden the presence of LINES Ballet both internationally and within its Bay Area home community.
