Drawing from her memories and experiences, artist Cindy De Losa makes tiny scenes reflecting San Francisco’s Mission community she believes is losing its heart. Her "Homes for the Homies" are shadowboxes filled with 3-D scenery and tiny plastic "homies," reminders of her Latino friends. “I make the boxes because I love my city,” Discolandia, Playland, and even SF General, are big parts of her life and are her way of preserving her world.
You can find Cindy at Precita Eyes, a nonprofit mural arts organization where she serves as store manager. She tells the story, history and meaning of each of the homes displayed. Visitors also get a primer on the neighborhood murals to then take to streets to see.
